From Bedtime Stories to Life’s Choices: A Father’s Turning Point
You finished reading your son a bedtime story, tucked him in and kissed him goodnight. As you close the door you look back one last time and think to yourself how precious he is and how much you love him.
As you head the bathroom to get ready for bed yourself you catch a glimpse of yourself. At one time you were fit, but now you see a person with slouched shoulders, belly beginning to creep over your belt and that athletic person you once were is now a distant memory.
You ask yourself, “How the heck did I let this happen?”
That’s when you realize you have two choices. Continue as you are and slowly turn into a ball of mush, or make some lifestyle changes.
You then remember losing you Dad at a young age and wish he had been around longer to help guide and give you advice as you grew. What if that happens to that child in the next room that you love so much? Will you be there to guide him as he grows?
Will you choose to change? Or will you make another excuse?
Last year it was not enough money for the gym, but you still found the money for the sports car.
Then it was not enough time. But how much time did you spend scrolling on your phone and staying up too late to watch the latest Netflix series?
You want to eat better, but don’t like vegetables. Guess what you didn’t like beer and whisky the first time either, but those have grown on you haven’t they? Veggies might just do the same.
There is always an excuse. And these excuses are costing you your life. Maybe it’s 10 years, maybe 15, maybe 20 years less. Time will tell.
If you won’t change for you, do it for that little child you love and who loves and looks up to you so much. Be there for him when he needs you as a teen and young adult when he is trying to figure out life and feels lost.
Stop being so selfish by making excuses and take responsibility for your life. If not for you, for that precious child.
