When we first start working with a new client one of the first things we do is take them through a Functional Movement Screening, or FMS. This screen looks at how well the body moves and works together as a unit through seven different fundamental movement patterns.

One of these patterns that we look at is the squat. When we look at the squat we can see very quickly if we have any tightness in the ankles or hips that may be causing a lack of range of motion and if we see something it lets us know how to move forward and correct the movement, so that we achieve perfect movement.

So why is having a good squat pattern important?

Well it’s important because if we can’t squat well or properly we will end up placing unwanted stress on the knees and low back that can lead to injury down the road.
